Bon Voyage

Hello friends and family. As many of you know, Thatcher and I are about to set sail for the Sea of Cortez, and we couldn’t be more excited. I want to take a moment and thank everyone who has supported and cheered us on throughout the year. “Agora” in ancient Greece translated roughly to “open space” for the community, and we’ve already felt the union of our own Santa Barbara community through the planning of this trip. We are humbled and cannot express our appreciation to you all.

This trip truly began over a year ago as we walked around the Douglas Preserve trying to merge our life dreams together. I grew up land locked in Colorado and preferred to spend my free time doing activities that required just that – land. And Thatcher would die happy if he saw every sunrise and sunset from a floating piece of fiberglass. Needless to say, this was a conversation that often went nowhere.

After a lot of brainstorming and conversations with very generous family members/managers/co-workers, we decided upon a sailing trip that would be gentle enough for myself yet adventurous enough for Thatcher – the Sea of Cortez! People have sailed the world and wanted first to return to the Sea of Cortez. And so our story begins.

Throughout our journey, Thatcher and I hope to keep our community updated on our successes to hardships, as we know there will be many of both. We’ll be posting photos and videos as much as we can, and we’re excited to have you along! And don’t worry Mom, we’ll be fine and I love you.
